Home dominance? RCB bags unwanted record after drubbing by PBKS in IPL 2025

New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lost their third game of the Indian Premier League (2025) while hosting Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday. The match turned out to be a rain-curtailed thriller as PBKS registered their fifth victory of the tournament by five wickets. Meanwhile, RCB has surpassed Delhi Capitals (DC) for a dubious distinction in IPL history.

There was a delay in the toss due to the heavy downpour in the Karnataka capital and lasted for a couple of hours after the scheduled start time of the match. Once the rain halted, it was decided that two teams would play a 14-over-a-side match with PBKS winning the toss and opting to field. On what looked like a tricky wicket after the long hours of rain, RCB struggled with the bat and could just post 95/9 in 14 overs.

After the loss, RCB fans were left devastated as they stayed back and waited too long for the game to start, only to witness their favourite side at the losing end. It was a disorderly retreat of the RCB at the hands of PBKS and Rajat Patidar and co. went on to claim a dubious record in the IPL history. RCB now has the most number of defeats at a venue in the IPL and the venue turns out to be their own den – Chinnaswamy stadium.

Most defeats at a venue in the IPL

46 – RCB at Bengaluru
45 – DC at Delhi
38 – KKR at Kolkata
34 – MI at Wankhede
30 – PBKS at Mohali

Moreover RCB is the only team that has yet to win a home game this season as they first lost against Gujarat Titans (GT) by eight wickets followed by a routing from Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets and the Friday night outing is their latest drubbing.

PBKS win by 5 wickets

The pitch seemed to have soaked in a bit of water, which made it damp in some patches, and the ball didn’t arrive early onto the bat. Other than skipper Rajat Patidar’s 23 and Tim David’s half-century (50* off 26), the RCB batters failed terribly at their own home. In response, Punjab Kings made sure they won’t lose wickets as frequently as their opponents when no. 5 batter Nehal Wadhera turned match-winner, hitting an unbeaten 19-ball 33 to take his team over the line, posting 98/5 in 12.1 overs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) endured their third defeat of IPL 2025 on Friday, also bagging a dubious distinction at their home ground – the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
