New Delhi: Carlos Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic by 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in the Wimbledon men’s singles final and defended his title. The Spaniard was dominant throughout the match. He handed Djokovic his first straight-set defeat in a Wimbledon final since 2013.
He won his third title of the 2024 season having previously won the French Open and the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Alcaraz is only the sixth male player to win the French Open and Wimbledon singles trophy in the same year since 1968.
In last year’s rematch on the grass, Alcaraz won the first set in 14 minutes and 5 break points to take an all-important lead in the set. The second set was no different as Alcaraz was ruthless again and put pressure on Djokovic.
Alcaraz made full use of the court and moved around brilliantly, Djokovic found it hard to counter Alcaraz’s charge. But the Serbian international was not ready to give up and started attacking a bit more in the third set. He saved four break points in the third game and survived eventually.
At 4-5, The Spaniard earned three Championship points but Djokovic made a sensational comeback and took the set into a tie-break. Alcaraz took a 3-1 lead in a tie-breaker, but the Serbian kept pushing harder. The 21-year-old showed his class and defended his title.

After winning the Wimbledon 2024, Alcaraz will get a whopping £27,00,000 (Rs 28.6 crore). Djokovic will get £14,00,000 which is roughly Rs 14 crores. Semi-finalists Daniil Medvedev and Lorenzo Musetti will pocket £715,000.
