New Delhi: With the current Ranji Trophy season under progress, Delhi are done with two of their clashes, recently denying Tamil Nadu a victory at their abode – the Arun Jaitley Stadium. If it wasn’t for the century by Yash Dhull, the result could have ended otherwise as Delhi would have endured their first loss of the tournament. After hitting the century on Sunday, Dhull was grateful to be back in action following a heart surgery in July.
The 21-year-old batter said that although it was a “minor” issue, it needed to be addressed as it could have caused serious issues later on. Dhull kept Delhi from falling apart with an unbeaten 105 coming off 197 balls laced with 11 fours and three sixes. He reached his century in style, hitting a six and celebrating the ton with overflowing emotions.

Tamil Nadu had posted a mammoth 674 for 6 declared as their first innings score but Dhull showed a fighting attitude with his first-class ton in the competitive tournament which is his first since his surgery. “This was a very important innings for me because this is after surgery. I have seen a lot. When you come back to playing on such a platform and start a new innings, this is good motivation and a positive sign,” Dhull said after Sunday’s play.
Dhull, who turns 22 in November, didn’t shy away from talking about his heart issue – “I got to know it is minor and from birth (congenital). I am playing at the ground again, this is God’s doing. I am blessed. I got to know (about it) during a camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. This is life. Something or the other happens,” Dhull added.
“This was a congenital problem. Normally the surgery happens after birth. Mine has happened very late. That we got to know was very important. Because after the age of 35, this would have harmed. Being back on the field makes me very happy,” Dhull said.
Delhi hold Tamil Nadu
It was Dhull’s sixth first-class century, coming in his 25th first-class game. He has previously captained India’s Under-19 team as well. On Monday, Delhi were restricted to 266 all-out in their first innings, having played a complete 100 overs as Tamil Nadu led by 408 runs. They decided to enforce the follow-on and sent down 83 overs to Delhi in their second innings (193/8) but couldn’t bundle them out on what was the final day of the game which was eventually drawn. Dhull had an eight in the second essay.

Delhi are currently fifth on the Elite Group D points table with four points after drawing out their two games played so far. They are to play five more clashes in the tournament and their next match is against Assam which starts on October 26.
