New Delhi: Shuttler HS Prannoy’s fight ended in a vain as the Indian suffered a narrow loss against China’s Li SHi Feng to bow out of the second round of the Malaysia Super 1000 badminton tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. The 32-year-old Indian badminton star, after losing the first set, bounced back emphatically in the second set, taking it in his kitty.
But it was the deciding third set where the Indian missed the chance by couple of points against the Chines opponent and lost the match 8-21, 21-15, 21-23 in an hour and 22 minutes against the seventh seeded player. Prannoy returned to the action on the court after the Paris Olympics 2024 and had begun the event on a solid note thrashing Canadian opponent Brian Yang in the opening round.
Satwiksairaj-Chirag to take to court later
Last year’s finalists in men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty from India, along with the mixed doubles pair of Sathish Karunakaran/Aadya Variyath and Malvika Bansod, will take to the court later on Thursday. Meanwhile, in the women’s results, the doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a 21-15, 19-21, 19-21 loss against China’s Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian in their round of 16 match.
In the mixed doubles action, the duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto went down fighting 13-21, 20-22 against China’s seventh seed pair of Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi in a clash which lasted for 44 minutes. The pair had earlier stormed into the final of the Syed Modi Super 300 International Tournament and looked in a fine touch ahead of the event.
