Huge blow for Australia as star all-rounder’s participation for India Tests in doubts

New Delhi: Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is doubtful for participation for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year following a recent back injury which forced him out of the ongoing England tour. On Friday, the 25-year-old was ruled out of the five-match ODI series against England after reporting soreness on his back after the completion of the third ODI in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday.

The scans revealed that Green has a back injury and the Western Australian cricketer will return to Perth to commence on a rehabilitation in what could be a ‘race against time’ to be fit for the crucial five-match Test series against India, starting from November 22. He will be further assessed with more tests once he reaches Australia, and only then a timeline for his return to action can be underlined.

According to cricket.com.au, an Australia men’s team spokesperson said the extent of the injury and a timeline for his return “wouldn’t be known until the player arrives home in Perth for further assessment”.

This isn’t the first time Green is having a back issue. He has a history with back injuries since breaking into the international circuit in 2020. To manage his workload, the Australian team management prohibited him from bowling in the summer of the 2019-20 season as he was enduring a stress fracture in the lower back at that point.

How Cameron Green performed on UK tour?

Green was included in Australia’s squad for T20I series against Scotland and England. He was also named in the ODI squad for the England series. The all-rounder scored 36 and 62* against Scotland in Edinburgh while returning with six wickets with the ball in the three-match series.

He amassed 26 runs from two innings against England with just one wicket with the ball in the T20I series which was shared by the two rivals 1-1 after the final match in Manchester was abandoned due to rain.

Green hit 32 runs in the first ODI in Nottingham before he was rested in Cardiff to manage his workload. He scored 42 with the bat in the third game and picked up two wickets while conceding 45 runs before he was ruled out.
