Hyderabad: A video of a cat drinking buttermilk out of a vessel in the kitchen of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Kukatpally, went viral on social media.
The incident took place on Monday and came to light after videos of the incident were posted online.
After probing the allegation, food safety officials said that a lack of proper barriers near the kitchen area resulted in the cat gaining access via the opening.
Speaking to the media, an official said that the lack of a proper barrier and proximity to the outside area posed a threat to hygiene standards. Cafeteria management have been asked to address the issue immediately, the official said.
The kitchen and essential store rooms, vegetable storage area of the hostel inspected and were found to be unhygienic and rotten produce was seen strewn around. Students have expressed unease at the situation and called for regular inspections.
This comes days after a mouse was found in a chutney vessel at the JNTUH campus in Sultanpur.
