Hyderabad: Food safety violations flagged at Tomato sauce manufacturing plants

Hyderabad: Telangana Commissioner of food safety and Taskforce revealed of a few violations at tomato sauce manufacturing plants in Nacharam and Jeedimetla areas of the city on June 10.

The taskforce found that medical fitness certificates of food handlers were not available at Sri Jyothi Food Industries, Nacharam which manufactures JL Continental Sauce.

Agarwal Food Products in Jeedimetla, which manufactures Sipp.. Tomato Sauce, also was unable to produce medical fitness certificates of food handlers and the premises was not fitted with insect proof screens to avoid entry of pests.

Meanwhile, the commissioner also warned food related businesses to ensure that the business is licensed and registered under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Act. Without a license, the business will be liable to a penalty of Rs 5 lakh, they said in a statement.

Earlier this week, Telangana Health, Medical and Family Welfare Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha met representatives from various associations of hotels and restaurants, dairy and food industry and emphasized the need to maintain standards in production, distribution, storage and preparation of food items.

Food safety commission has continued to crack down on poor standards at various restaurants across the state, levying fines for various violations.
