Hyderabad: Special teams of food safety authorities have conducted inspections in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana on Monday and found unsanitary conditions at several eateries.
While conducting raids at Townhouse, Sri Bhadra Grand, Bhadrachalam, Food safety officials found fungal infested Ice cream (88 Lt) worth of Rs. 39,600/- while rotten eggs stored in the refrigerator were discarded. Synthetic food colours were used in food preparation.
Further, 8 kgs of Biryani and 10 kgs of Mandi Rice and 0.5 kg of synthetic food colour lemon yellow was discarded. Improper storage of semi-prepared and raw food articles in refrigerator. The temperature of the fridge was not maintained, the food safety department said in a statement.
The raids also found that food handlers worked without haircaps, gloves and aprons. Medical fitness certificates for food handlers and pest control records were not found with the FBO. Water analysis report was not available with FBO for RO water used for cooking and drinking while the kitchen premises found open to outside environment without proper mesh/ barrier to avoid entry of pests or flies and dustbins were found open without lids.
Fungal infested dough:
At another eatery named Sri Gauthami Spice Restaurant, Bhadrachalam, 10 kgs of prepared dough was found fungal infested and discarded and usage of synthetic food colours was traced.
Open drainage, dustbins without lids were placed nearby cooked food. Cooked and raw food was stored improperly, veg and non veg food was found without lids and was exposed to flies and other pests, food safety department said.
Idly batter with houseflies:
At Raghavendra Hotel Tiffins & Meals, Bhadrachalam, the FSSAI license copy was not displayed at any prominent location of the premises.
8 kgs of Idly batter, 5 litres of boiled milk in which houseflies were traced were discarded. Proper hygiene was not maintained within the cooking area and food handlers were found without proper hairnets, aprons and gloves. Cooked and raw food was not covered with lids and no pest control measures are being followed by the hotel management. Prepared food was kept under the roof with spider webs, oil deposition was found falling from the roof.
This comes after a host of inspections in Hyderabad at several prominent restaurants and food joints, where standards of hygiene were questionable.
The raids also found that food handlers worked without haircaps, gloves and aprons at many places. A host if inspections and raids were conducted all over Hyderabad over the last week.
