Hyderabad: A man collapsed while waiting in queue for ‘Fish Prasadam’ on Saturday at Nampally Exhibition Grounds amidst a rush of people, reports said.
The man who has not been identified was rushed to the hospital but he died while undergoing treatment. He was a resident of Nizamabad district, police said.
Believed to be a cure for asthma, the fish prasadam distribution began on Saturday and will continue till Sunday. About 4 to 5 lakh people from Telangana, AP, Rajasthan, UP, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and other states are expected to take the prasadam.
The Bathini Goud family is administering and is typically given in the first week of June, heralding the onset of monsoon. Volunteer organizations are providing people with meals, snacks and drinking water.
The family has been distributing the prasadam for the last 175 years and they claim that the formula was given to them by a saint in 1845 after promising that it would be free of cost.
