New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been blamed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief operating officer for the “mismanagement” of the Champions Trophy final presentation ceremony in Dubai. It is noteworthy that no Pakistan representative was called to the podium during the ceremony despite the nation being the host of the marquee event.
PCB CEO Sumair Ahmed was present at the ground but wasn’t called upon which he said was a part of ICC’s mismanagement. At a function in Lahore, Ahmed said it was the result of mismanagement on part of the ICC. It was a result of mismanagement on part of the ICC and everyone knows who’s involved in it. We did not take the matter in a positive way,” he said.
Ahmed said that he went to Dubai for the final match at the direction of PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. He also confirmed that the ICC hasn’t yet responded to the PCB’s demand for an explanation for the mismanagement. “We had asked for an explanation from the ICC, but the response received wasn’t satisfactory, so we’ve sent another letter seeking explanation,” he said.
Present dignitaries
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia and New Zealand Cricket’s (NZC) CEO Roger Twose were present on the podium with the BCCI president, Roger Binny, and ICC chairman Jay Shah, but anyone from Pakistan was absent.
Sumair also addressed one of the concerns regarding the Gaddafi Stadium which was recently upgraded for the mega event. He confirmed that one of the roofs of the stadium had leaked during the tournament. He blamed the contractor for the leaking roof of the newly-renovated stadium after heavy downpour during the Australia vs Afghanistan clash in Lahore. “We have claimed damages and the fault has been removed by the same contractor,” Ahmed said.
