New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday send the Champions Trophy to Pakistan for a country-wide tour. Even though the ICC is yet to announce the final schedule of the much talked-about Champions Trophy 2025, it made sure the trophy flew to the Asian nation for a tour which will begin from November 16.
A report in news agency PTI suggests that according to a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official, the trophy tour would begin from Skardu in northern Pakistan. The official further said that tour will majorly cover main cities of Pakistan were the big ICC event is set to be played. On Thursday, the trophy arrived in the city of Islamabad.
Trophy arrives at crucial juncture
The trophy of the big-ticket event has arrived at a crucial juncture when the ICC is seeking a response from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on hosting the prestigious event in a hybrid model after India’s refusal to travel to the neighbouring nation for the event due to political tensions between the country.
Earlier in the month, the trophy was set to be unveiled in Lahore but the ceremony was postponed after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the apex cricket body that it won’t be sending their team to Pakistan for the event following a refusal of permission by the Indian government. The event was also postponed due to the smog situation in the city.
On November 14 finally, the trophy was flown from Dubai to Islamabad by the ICC officials. The tour, which will end on November 24, is part of the ICC’s effort to build excitement around the Champions Trophy 2025, set to take place from February 19 to March 9 next year. The apex cricket body is yet to make an official announcement or comment on India’s refusal to play in Pakistan.
