Coimbatore: “If my father was Karunanidhi I also would have won elections by now. My father’s name is Kuppuswamy, so it will take some time for me to win elections. We will form a Government in Tamil Nadu in 2026″ Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai reacted to his defeat by DMK in Coimbatore in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP leader’s response comes after DMK leader Kanimozhi took a poll dig against Annamalai over his defeat in Coimbatore. Earlier, Kanimozhi said that BJP state president Annamalai often asks me what qualifications I have, Now I will answer him as a representative elected by the people for the second time. It is not good for the party if a person who does not even have these qualifications continues here as the leader of the BJP.” Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, was re-elected from Thoothukudi to Lok Sabha for consecutive term and registered a victory against the AIADMK candidate by over 3 Lakh vote margin.
On the other hand, Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai lost to DMK’s Ganpathy Rajkumar over 1 lakh vote margin in Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat when the results declared on June 4, 2024.
Talking about the 2024 Lok Sabha Election results, Annamalai further said “BJP was asked to ally with Naveen Patnaik 10 years back, would BJP have won Odisha today? From Zero seats in 2004 to 1 seat in 2009, now we are ruling Odisha. This is how a party would grow – step by step. I’m here to grow the party in TN, not to adjust with anybody. If the party wants an adjustable leadership, they will assign such a leader.”
