New Delhi: Igor Tudor’s debut game in charge of Juventus resulted in a 1-0 win at home against Genoa in their Serie A game on Saturday, with Kenan Yildiz scoring the only goal of the game. Juventus are currently placed fifth with 55 points, standing just one point away from the fourth-placed Bologna, who won 1-0 against Venezia earlier, while Genoa continues in 12th position, with just 35 points from the season.

Tudor was brought in last Sunday to replace Thiago Motta, who was sacked following two big defeats, a 4-0 home loss to Atalanta and a 3-0 defeat to Fiorentina. The results came just after Juve exited both the Champions League and Coppa Italia. Tudor spent most of his playing career at Juventus and was later Andrea Pirlo’s assistant for a season. The Croatian has now been tasked to secure a Champions League spot for the next season.

Tudor made changes immediately after joining, choosing to go with three at the back and dropping Randal Kolo Muani for Dusan Vlahovic, who had only 23 minutes of playing from the bench in the last three games. Tudor had said there was a need to get results and push for wins.

In a way, Tudor affected the only goal of the match as well after he quickly gathered the ball on the sidelines and threw it to Teun Koopmeiners for a throw-in that Vlahovic bounced into Yildiz’s path. Yildiz dribbled it past the defense and scored from a tricky angle midway through the first half.

Juventus, though, started with the attack but it was Genoa who had early chances in the game. Morten Frendrup hit a volley which had almost crawled under the bar but Michele Di Gregorio managed to save. Frendrup made another weak attempt, but it was no challenge for the shot-stopper.

Koopmeiners wasted a chance by sending his shot high and wide before the decisive goal. Both sides failed to create a lot of chances thereafter in the opening half, though Genoa had a chance to equalize right after the break but Andrea Pinamonti sent a volley wide.

In stoppage time, the hosts had a chance to double their lead, but Timothy Weah didn’t execute his shot well enough, which Leali was able to save. Juventus’ big negative in the game would be the injury to key defender Federico Gatti in the first half.

Less than a week after replacing Thiago Motta as Juventus boss, Igor Tudor takes his first win at the helm of the team, as he fends for Champions League spot for next season.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
