New Delhi: In what comes as a big blow, the inaugural edition of the Neeraj Chopra Classic event has been postponed indefinitely due to the rising ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The first edition of the event, which was slated to be held on may 24, has been postponed until further notice, organisers confirmed on Friday.
The event, which was supposed to be the return of star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra in India, would have witnessed the participation of many domestic as well as international stars but the decision was made for the well-being of the athletes keeping in mind the current situation in the country.
Chopra confirms postponement
Double Olympic medallist Neeraj had last month announced that the high-profile javelin tournament has been shifted to Bengaluru from the original venue of Panchkula. But on Friday, the star athlete announced the postponement after posting a statement from the NC Classic team on social media handle X. He also said the revised schedule of the tournament will shared in due course.
