New Delhi: India Women will square off with Bangladesh Women in the first semifinal of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on Friday. It is noteworthy that both semifinals are scheduled to take place on the same day, the difference being the timings. The India vs Bangladesh encounter will be an afternoon clash followed by the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka second semifinal in the evening.
Led by Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana (previous game), India have been on a stellar run of three back-to-back wins in their group-stage fixtures. They kicked off their campaign at the Asian T20 tournament with an assertive seven-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan. The Women in Blue next faced UAE and thrashed them by 78 runs. They last faced Nepal and handed them a similar kind of thrashing… by 82 runs to top the Group A points table.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, won two of their three scheduled group stage matches to finish second on the Group B points table. They started the tournament on a dull note with a seven-wicket defeat from hosts Sri Lanka. They scripted a turnaround next and beat Thailand by seven wickets. Their dominating performances continued in the next clash against Malaysia, whom they hammered by 114 runs.
Both teams eye a win to book a berth for the final which is scheduled on July 27, Saturday. The losing team will pack their bags to depart for home.
