New Delhi: India Women will square off with Sri Lanka Women in the all-important final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on Sunday. It is to be noted that the game was scheduled to be played on Sunday evening but was rescheduled to the afternoon just a day before to avoid its clash with the men’s India vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I. The game was preponed from the regular 7:00 time slot.
Nonetheless, India have enjoyed a stellar run in the tournament and will look to bag their second consecutive Asia Cup title. They come on the back of three back-to-back wins in their group-stage fixtures and converted it to four wins on the trot after thrashing Bangladesh in the semifinal by 10 wickets to cruise to the final. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side beat arch-rivals Pakistan to kick off their campaign and went on to defeat UAE and Nepal as well.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have been on a very similar run as they started their campaign by thrashing Bangladesh and made it three in three just like India after beating Malaysia and Thailand in the Group B clashes. They faced Pakistan in the semifinal and managed a three-wicket victory over the Asian rivals to set up a final against the neighbours, India.
