New Delhi: India defeated Zimbabwe by 23 runs in the third T20I to script history by becoming the first team to reach 150 wins in T20Is. Shubman Gill & Co. continued their winning run at the Harare Sports Club in Harare to go 2-1 up in the five-match series. While Washington Sundar starred with the ball, skipper Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad produced impressive knocks in the game.
Opting to bat first in the game, India rode on Gill’s 49-ball 66 and Gaikwad’s 49 off 28 balls to post a strong total of 182 runs on the board in 20 overs. India made a handful of changes in their playing XI for the 3rd T20I as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, the three members of India’s T20 World Cup 2024-winning squad walked straight into the team after linking up with the team in Harare.
Khaleel Ahmed was also included in the XI in place of Mukesh Kumar. Opening the batting with Gill, Jaiswal looked in fine form as he scored 36 off 27 balls. The duo shared a brilliant stand of 67 runs for the first wicket to get India off to a flyer. India’s centurion from the last game, Abhishek Sharma was demoted at no.3 and failed to get going as he was dismissed cheaply on just 10 off 9 balls.
Gaikwad and Gill shared a crucial stand of 72 runs for the third wicket to propel India to 182/4 in 20 overs. Sundar led the charge with the ball as the off-spinner picked up a three-wicket haul to help India restrict Zimbabwe to 159/6 in 20 overs and register a comfortable win. Sundar was well supported by Avesh Khan, who finished with figures of 2/39 in his 4 overs.
