India return after 10 months? Ishan Kishan likely to get picked for Bangladesh T20Is

New Delhi: Star wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan looks set to make his comeback for Team India after nearly 20 months as he might get selected in the squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh. Kishan last played for India in November last year before opting for a break due to mental health reasons. He was later ignored from the national team owing to disciplinary reasons.

Kishan was axed from the BCCI central contracts list for not prioritising domestic cricket when not on national duty and was also snubbed from India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. The left-hander has been in fine form ever since he made his comeback to competitive cricket in the DY Patil T20 Cup in August this year and looks set to regain his spot in the Indian team.

As per a report in PTI, Shubman Gill is likely to be rested from T20Is after the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. India will play two Tests followed by three T20Is against the visitors at home. Since there is little gap between the two series, a number of India’s Test regulars might be rested given the long season ahead in the longest format.

The report adds that there is a possibility of Kishan getting selected in the T20I squad if Pant is rested from the T20I series against Bangladesh after the two-match Test series. Pant is an integral member of the Test team and will be India’s first-choice wicket-keeper batter in all 10 Tests that they have to play in their remaining season, including the five Tests against Australia on their tour Down Under.

Ishan Kishan shines in Duleep Trophy

Kishan hasn’t put a foot wrong ever since his return to competitive cricket and has been piling on runs. After missing the first round of matches in the Duleep Trophy due to injury concerns, the wicket-keeper batter featured for Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India C in their second game against India B and made a thumping return.

Kishan went on to hammer a brilliant knock of 111 runs off just 126 balls laced with 14 fours and 3 sixes to announce his arrival in style in first-class cricket. The left-hander had earlier slammed a ton for Jharkhand against Madhya Pradesh in the Buchi Babu tournament. Kishan will be hoping to capitalise on his opportunities if he is allowed to make his comeback in T20Is against Bangladesh.
