India shatter their Asian Games record in dominant win against Bangladesh in 1st T20I

New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav-led India thrashed Bangladesh by seven wickets in the 1st T20I in Gwalior to go 1-0 up in the three-match series. India shattered their Asian Games record in the game to register their best-ever Powerplay score against Bangladesh in a T20I. India were clinical in the run chase against Bangladesh as they scaled down the target of 128 runs in just 11.5 overs.

Sanju Samson opened the innings for India with Abhishek Sharma in the absence of a second specialist opener. Both batters got India off to a flying start in the chase and dominated the proceedings in the Powerplay. Abhishek was run out after scoring 16 off 7 balls laced with 2 fours and a six but Samson continued the onslaught after his departure.

Samson combined with skipper Suryakumar to add 40 runs for the 2nd wicket, helping India post 71/2 in the Powerplay. The India skipper departed after scoring 29 off 14 balls having played his part in India’s annihilation of the Bangladesh bowling attack in the Powerplay while Samson ended up scoring 29 off 19 balls.

With the score of 71/2 in the first six overs, India managed to break their record for their highest-ever Powerplay score against Bangladesh in T20Is. The Men in Blue had set the record when Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. scored 68/1 in the Powerplay against Bangladesh in the Asian Games last year. India’s score of 71/2 is the third-best Powerplay score by any team against Bangladesh in T20Is behind West Indies’ 91/1 and 88/1 in 2018.

Batters power India to commanding victory

Indian batters enjoyed a field day at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior as they put the Bangladesh bowlers to the sword to power the hosts to a commanding victory in the game. Asked to chase a low-key target of 127 runs in 20 overs, India cruised to victory with as many as 8.1 overs to spare in what was a dominating display from Suryakumar-led side.

Hardik Pandya top-scored for India in the chase with an unbeaten 39 off 16 balls and led India to a clinical victory after a strong start from the top order. India will look to make it two wins in a row when they take on Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I in Delhi on Wednesday, October 09.
