New Delhi: Star batter KL Rahul is most likely to miss Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy clash against Punjab on Thursday. Rahul will continue to recover from an elbow niggle and he has conveyed the same BCCI medical staff. Rahul has informed the medical staff about his concern and they are currently monitoring the senior batter.
However, Rahul has a chance to play against Haryana in season’s last league contest which starts in January 30. The Karnataka State Cricket Association is set to announce the squad for the game against Punjab in a couple of days. Apart from Rahul, other Indian players from the state, Prasidh Krishna and Devdutt Padikkal will be available for selection as both of them are currently playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Devdutt in fine touch
Devdutt Padikal is in a fine touch from a while striking a century and half-century in the two games he played after returning from Australia. Meanwhile, Punjab will have the services of batting sensation Shubman Gill against Karnataka. The Indian cricket board has made it compulsory for players to participate in domestic matches as part of a new 10-point diktat which was issued earlier in the week on Thursday.
Players will need permission of the chairman of selectors to avail an exemption from this stipulation. In wake of the recent disasters India faced in Australia and against New Zealand, BCCI seems to have tightened the grip on the Indian players along with appointing a new batting coach in form of Sitanshu Kotak.
From restrictions on families to barring personal photoshoots during tours/series to playing domestic cricket, the Indian cricket board has cracked the whip on the Indian players of the men’s team. Meanwhile, Rahul will be a sure shot selection for the Champions Trophy 2025 but his participation in the England series could be under doubt.
