India squad for Zimbabwe T20I series: Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag likely to get maiden call-ups

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe soon. Several youngsters who shone in the Indian Premier League (IPL) are set to receive their maiden call-ups in the Indian squad for the tour of Zimbabwe which is set to get underway from July 6.

The five-match series will conclude on July 14 and all matches will be played in Harare. With the main Indian squad busy in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, BCCI is expected to send a second-string team for the Zimbabwe tour. Some of the young guns, who impressed with their performances in IPL 2024, are likely to make the cut in the squad.

As per a report in ANI, sources have claimed that Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag and Mayank Yadav are likely to feature in India’s squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe. Both Abhishek and Riyan took the IPL 2024 by storm with their performances with the bat while Mayank made heads turn with his sizzling pace for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Abhishek was one of the most consistent Indian batters in IPL 2024 as he went all guns blazing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The left-hander formed a destructive opening pair with the dangerous Travis Head and showcased his excellent hitting prowess throughout the season. He finished as the 10th-highest run-getter of the season with 484 runs from 16 matches at a strike rate of 204.31, including three half-centuries.

Riyan bounced back strongly for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024 after enduring a difficult time last year. The batter was promoted to number 4 by the team management and he repaid the faith shown in him by smashing 573 runs in 16 matches at an average of 52.09 and a strike rate of 149, including 4 fifties. Both Abhishek and Riyan played a key role in helping their team make it to the playoffs.

Mayank was one of the revelations of IPL 2024 as he left many in awe with his remarkable pace and ability to hit the right lengths consistently. The young LSG pacer consistently clocked over 150kph and was too hot to handle for the batters. Injuries cut short his campaign early in IPL 2024 but his 7 wickets at an average of 12.14 and an economy rate of 6.98 in 4 matches were enough to convince everyone of his special abilities.
