New Delhi: The Indian men’s hockey team will be looking to win their 2nd straight title and 5th trophy overall when they take on China in the final of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 on Tuesday, September 18. India thrashed Korea 4-1 in the semi-final to book a spot in their second consecutive final and stand just one win away from completing a successful title defence.
India continued their dominant run against Korea in the semi-final as a magnificent brace from captain Harmanpreet Singh and a goal apiece from Uttam Singh and Jermanpreet Singh helped them wrap up a comprehensive 4-1 victory. The only unbeaten team in the tournament so far, India will look to conclude their stellar campaign with a win against China in the final.
Harmanpreet-led India have played some phenomenal hockey in the tournament despite getting minimal time to prepare for the tournament after winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 last month. India have scored a whopping 25 goals in the tournament so far and conceded only 5, showcasing their attacking prowess and defensive solidity.
While India made light work of Korea in the semi-final, China staged an upset against Pakistan in their semi-final to secure a spot in the summit clash. China stunned Pakistan 2-0 in a shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. India will start as favourites against China considering their dominant run in the tournament so far. However, Harmanpreet & Co. will not take their opponents lightly after their shock win against Pakistan.
India are heading into the final on the back of wins against China, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan and Korea while China have managed to secure a spot in the summit clash after beating the likes of Malaysia, Korea and Pakistan. China’s only defeat in the tournament came against India in the group stage. India have a dominant record against China having won 5 matches and lost just once in six meetings between the two teams.
