New Delhi: Defending champions India will look to make it to their second straight final when they take on Korea in the semi-final of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 in China on Monday, September 16. Harmanpreet Singh-led India have been unbeaten in the tournament so far and will be looking to keep their winning run intact in the semi-final.
The only unbeaten team in the tournament so far, India have managed five wins on the trot as the defending champions remain a couple of wins away from completing a successful title defence. India got their campaign underway with a 3-0 thrashing of hosts China before beating Japan 5-1 in their next game.
India ran riot against Malaysia, thrashing them 8-1 in their third match of the tournament before beating Korea 3-1. India ran 2-1 winners against arch-rivals Pakistan in their last game and will be hoping to continue the momentum against Korea in the semi-final. Having already beaten Korea in the group stages, Harmanpreet & Co. will start the semi-final as favourites on Monday.
Despite getting little time to prepare for the competition after their bronze medal-winning campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024, India have been at their dominant best in the Asian Champions Trophy 2024. The Indian hockey team has an overwhelming head-to-head record against Korea having won 38 matches compared to their 11 victories in the encounters between the two teams. The two teams have played out 12 draws.
Korea are heading into the semi-final on the back of a 3-3 draw against Malaysia which helped them cruised to the last four. Korea scored on the final hooter to pull off a 3-3 draw and enter the semis. They have lost only once in the tournament so far and the defeat came against India.
