New Delhi: India will take on Zimbabwe in the second T20I of the five-match series scheduled at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Sunday. After handing a 1-0 lead to the hosts, the Men in Blue will aim to bounce back to equalise the lead while Zimbabwe will look to continue the winning momentum. Team India arrived in Harare with high hopes and looked confident to continue their dominance over the African nation but were given a reality check.
Led by Shubman Gill, India opted to bowl first and no Zimbabwe batter could score more than 30 runs. The Indian bowlers worked wonders as they dismantled the batting order and restricted them to 115/9 in 20 overs. Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged four wickets and Washington Sundar got two to his credit while Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan bagged a wicket each.
What seemed a cakewalk for Team India turned out to be a miserable affair as the young guns-loaded side faltered in front of the Zimbabwe bowlers. Debutants Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag, who were expected to go big disappointed with a failed outing with the bat, and the rest of the middle-order followed it up. Only Gill could score 31 but couldn’t capitalise. Sundar’s sluggish 27 runs and Avesh Khan’s 16 couldn’t take India near the target, falling short by 13 runs at the end. Tendai Chatara and skipper Sikandar Raza bagged three wickets each as India were skittled out for 102 in 19.5 overs
