New Delhi: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) last month submitted its official request in a bid to host for the Olympics 2036 edition. The national governing body submitted a ‘Letter of Intent’ to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission on October 1, according to sources close to Sports Ministry. This is the first step taken towards serving country’s biggest dream of hosting the prestigious sporting event for the first time.
“This monumental opportunity could bring substantial benefits, fostering economic growth, social progress, and youth empowerment across the country,” the source added, as reported by news agency PTI.
This follows the envision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he expressed the aspirations of hosting the Olympics at the 141st IOC session held in Mumbai in October last year. India will face competition from other Asian countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey.
