Indian-origin girl raises Rs 25 lacs for Mumbai-based charity in London racing event

New Delhi: An Indian-origin investment management professional has raised over Rs 25 lakh rupees for a Mumbai-based charity by running a half-marathon in London. Neha Madhotra, an Economics Graduate from the University of Cambridge, completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon run in less than two hours to raise funds.

The Royal Royal Parks Half Marathon is widely regarded as one of the United Kingdom’s most friendly and photogenic half marathons.

The 2024 edition of the marathon took place on Sunday, 13 October in the heart of London’s iconic green spaces. Neha was one of over 16,000 runners who participated in the iconic event.

Neha, who raised £8233 (Rs 8 lakh), was aided by his employers who tripled the amount, raising it to a total of Rs 25 lakh for the Mumbai-based charity Educate Girls, a foundation that supports girls’ education in India.

Neha is a strong believer and supporter of women’s empowerment through education. Her father Dr Ravi Madhotra is a notable figure in the United Kingdom. A keen cricketer and badminton player, Ravi is a senior gastroentrologist, in Milton Keynes. Neha was an active sportsperson in her college days and led the badminton team at Cambridge University.

Neha completed the marathon in less than two hours, much before the stipulated cut-off time of four hours.

An iconic event in the heart of London

The scenic route of the marathon took the runners through some of the capital’s most scenic spaces, including four of London’s eight Royal Parks – Hyde Park, Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens. The runners also crossed iconic London landmarks including Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and the Royal Albert Hall.

The Royal Parks Half Marathon is one of the first major UK running events to go plastic bottle-free in 2019 and has firmly maintained its pledge to ban all plastic bottles along the course and within the event village.
