IndiGo Stretch: CEO Elbers shares biz travel plans: 40 jets, 12 routes and 1 year

New Delhi: IndiGo’ plans for business class jets are on the upsurge with the airline planning to offer travel class on 40 jets by 2025, said CEO Pieter Elbers. The airline plans to launch its business class travel offering, IndiGo Stretch, on the Delhi-Mumbai route by November 2024.

The airline is planning to expand IndiGo Stretch to 12 routes by next year. IndiGo Stretch will target premium fliers on the Delhi-Bengaluru and Delhi-Hyderabad routes which are known to be business routes, Elbers said. IndiGo Stretch has evolved in response to customer demands, CNBCTV18 reported, citing Elbers. However, Elbers added that IndiGo remained a low-cost carrier at heart.

IndiGo has priced the introductory Delhi-Mumbai IndiGo Strecth business class flight at Rs 18,018 per head. The announcement was made as a part of the budget carrier’s anniversary celebrations.

IndiGo Stretch will start with just one Delhi-Mumbai flight with plans to expand it to all flights, almost 20 per day, on the route, said Elbers.

IndiGo Stretch business class cabins are expected to house 12 seats on every jet. The airline will deploy the Airbus A321XLR jets on business class routes with an eye on long-haul flights in Europe, Asia and Australia, CNBC TV18 reported.

IndiGo is also planning to offer a special menu as part of IndiGo Stretch including a snack, dessert and salad with dressing, according to a post on X by aviation sector observer Ajay Awtaney.
