New Delhi: Ishan Kishan is a man on a mission to make every opportunity count. The out-of-favour Jharkhand wicket-keeper batter was a surprise inclusion in India C’s playing XI for their second-round Duleep Trophy match against India B in Anantpur but there was nothing surprising about his knock.
Ishan was named in the India D squad for the first round match but a knee injury ruled him out of the contest. He was replaced by Sanju Samson. He was not named in the updated squads for Round 2 but made a surprising return by becoming part of India C’s playing XI.
Ishan made the most of the surprise chance by smashing a superb half-century. Coming into bat at N0.4 after India C lost two wickets in the space of a single run, Ishan scored a counter-attacking fifty to put India B on the backfoot.

Round 2 – India C lost 2 wickets in the space of 1 then came Ishan Kishan and scored a terrific fifty.

Ishan makes a statement with superb innings
Ishan completed his half-century in only 48 balls and is nearing a sensational century on his red-ball return. So far, he has hit 12 boundaries and one six.
After India C skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad retired after facing two balls, Sai Sudharsan (40), and Rajat Patidar (43) stitched a superb 92-run stand for the second wicket. But both batters fell in the space of one run as India B hit back with two quick wickets.
Ishan, then, took centre stage to put the pressure back on the India C bowlers. He was ably supported by Baba Indarjith, who is nearing a half-century.
As soon as Ishan’s name was announced in India C playing XI, fans on social media demanded the national selectors to bring him back into the team as “Bring back Ishan Kishan” started trending on social media.
Ishan has been out of favour since being dropped from the BCCI central contract list earlier this year.
