New Delhi: An unforeseen incident unfolded during the third T20I between India and South Africa in Centurion after flying ants invaded the SuperSport Park on Wednesday. After India scored mammoth 219 runs in the first innings after being put into bat first, the beginning of the second innings saw drama all across the stadium forcing players to leave the field for a while.
Just after Arshdeep Singh bowled the first over of the second innings, umpires asked the players to pause the play just before the start of the second over as too many ants created havoc on the ground. Meanwhile, after a 20-minute break, play was finally resumed and Hardik Pandya, who was about to bowl the second over, came back into action after a tiny break.
Has it happened ever before in cricket?
An incident of such sort happens very rarely on any sporting field but has it ever actually taken place on the cricket field or not is the question. This is not the first time flying ants have halted play in cricket and especially at the SuperSport Park, it has happened for the second time. A similar incident took place back in 2009 where flying ants invaded the match at the same venue. It was a Champions Trophy game between Australia and England.
