New Delhi: Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube excelled with the bat as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 2 wickets in an IPL 2025 match on Wednesday. This loss derailed KKR’s chances to qualify for the playoffs, keeping them only mathematically alive in the race. Chasing 180 runs at the Eden Gardens, Super Kings (183/8) completed the target with two balls to spare. This was CSK’s first win in 23 days.
After openers Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway departed for ducks each, debutant Urvil Patel showed some courage impressing in his first match with a 11-ball 31-run knock. After his dismissal, Brevis and Dube acted as the torchbearers for the Super Kings slamming knocks of 52 and 45 respectively to get their side out of danger. Vintage MS Dhoni did the rest scoring 17 runs in 18 balls to help the side cross the finish line.
For the Knight Riders, Vaibhav Arora picked up three wickets while Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana excelled with the ball claiming two wickets apiece. Moeen Ali also contributed with a wicket.
Rahane top-scores for KKR
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders scored 179 for 6 in the stipulated 20 overs after opting to bat first at home. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane was the top scorer with 48 runs in 33 balls while Andre Russell and Manish Pandey chipped in with 38 and 36 not out respectively. Russell hammered three sixes and four boundaries while Rahane also slammed couple of maximums. Sunil Narine scored 26 runs while Rinku Singh and Angkrish Raghuvanshi could not show much impact with the bat.
For the visiting side, Noor Ahmad was the most successful bowler as he excelled with four wickets while Anshul Kamboj and Ravindra Jadeja picked one wicket apiece. CSK, who are out of the playoff race, play their next match against Rajasthan Royals on Monday while KKR lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday.
