New Delhi: England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler is set to make his return to international cricket after four months of inaction. On Wednesday, he was named to lead the side for the West Indies tour in the October-November window.
Buttler hasn’t played any format of cricket ever since England’s semifinal exit to eventual champions India in Guyana. He was initially named in England’s white-ball squad for the Australia home series, but a calf injury on his right leg forced him out of the eight matches (three T20Is and five ODIs).
The 34-year-old wicketkeeper-batter will once again don the captain’s hat when the England white-ball squad travel to the Caribbean region. Following the Pakistan tour, England are scheduled to play the West Indies in three One-Day Internationals and five T20 Internationals from October 31 to November 17.
Philip Salt and Harry Brook led England in T20Is and ODIs, respectively, against Australia last month in the absence of Buttler. Brook wasn’t included in the 14-member squad for the West Indies tour, but is expected to be drafted in as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in a media release mentioned that two players from the Pakistan Test squad will be added after the start of the third Test match in Rawalpindi (from October 24 onwards).
Leg-spinner Jafer Chohan earns maiden call-up for England
Yorkshire leg-spinner Jafer Chohan earned his maiden call-up as one of the three uncapped players in the West Indies tour. According to a report in The Guardian, the 22-year-old is a graduate from the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA) in United Kingdom. He will be SACA’s first player in England squad as part of their programme.
Chohan played for Middlesex in the age-group cricket, but made his senior debut for Yorkshire in the T20 Blast. He picked up 17 wickets in 10 matches this season at an economy rate of 7.80.
Hampshire fast bowler John Turner and Warwickshire middle-order batter Dan Mousley were the other two uncapped players with Chohan named in England’s squad. Turner and Mousley were also part of England’s whiteball squad against Australia.
