New Delhi: Mitchell Starc’s five-wicket haul and a brilliant half-century from Faf du Plessis helped Delhi Capitals (DC) register a commanding seven-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, March 30. Delhi Capitals continued their winning streak in Vizag with a second victory in a row this season.
Starc wreaked havoc with the ball as his fifer helped Delhi Capitals skittle out SRH for 163 runs despite a fabulous knock of 41-ball 74 from young Aniket Verma. Starc decimated SRH’s top order before running through the tail to finish with excellent figures of 5/35 off his 3.4 overs. In reply, DC rode on Du Plessis’s 27-ball 50 and a fine cameo of unbeaten 34 from Abhishek Porel to chase down the target of 164 runs with 24 balls to spare.
Mitchell Starc sizzles with the ball
Starc was in red-hot form with the ball as he rattled the dangerous Sunrisers Hyderabad batting line-up with a five-wicket haul. He forced the run out of SRH opener Abhishek Sharma in the very first over before dismissing Ishan Kishan and Nitish Reddy inside three balls in his second over to reduce SRH to 25/3. Kishan was caught by Tristan Stubbs trying to cut a short ball, while Axar Patel took a brilliant catch to dismiss Reddy on a duck.
Starc also got rid of the dangerous Travis Head cheaply on 22 off 12 balls. Head did manage to get off to a strong start, but Starc sent him packing in the 5th over to decimate SRH’s top order with the new ball in the Powerplay. Starc made Head his bunny bi dismissing him for the sixth time in just 8 innings in top-flight cricket.
Starc went on to complete his fifer with the help of wickets of tail-enders Wiaan Mulder and Harshal Patel to finish with excellent figures of 5/35. He was well supported by left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who picked up a three-wicket haul to help DC restrict SRH to a moderate total. Madhya Pradesh batter Aniket Verma was the only silver lining in an otherwise abysmal batting display from SRH.
Aniket came out to bat at no.5 when SRH were reeling at 25/3, having lost the likes of Abhishek, Kishan and Reddy cheaply. Head followed suit soon, but the youngster showcased incredible composure under pressure to play a fabulous knock of 74 runs off 41 balls laced with six sixes and 5 fours to lift his team to a fighting total of 163 runs.

Faf du Plessis’s fifty guides DC home
Spinner Zeeshan Ansari shone on his debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad with a three-wicket haul against DC in Vizag, but his heroics were not enough to save the match as Faf du Plessis’s half-century guided DC home comfortably. Du Plessis scored a quickfire 50 off 27 balls laced with 3 sixes and as many fours and combined with his opening partner Jake Fraser-McGurk to get DC off to a strong start with an 81-run opening stand for the first wicket.
Ansari drew the first blood for SRH in the 10th over when he got rid of Du Plessis on 50. The spinner then caught and bowled McGurk on 38 off 32 balls before dismissing KL Rahul cheaply on 15. However, Porel’s cameo of 18-ball 34 along with Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten 21 helped DC wrap up a comfortable 7-wicket win in Vizag to make it two wins in a row in IPL 2025.
Delhi Capitals (DC) rode on a stupendous half-century from Faf du Plessis and a five-wicket haul from Mitchell Starc to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 7 wickets and bag their second win in a row in IPL 2025.
