Ipswich Town sign Burnley defender Dara O’Shea on five-year deal

New Delhi: Dara O’Shea, a defender for Burnley, has officially joined Ipswich Town, the team announced on Sunday for an initial  £12m plus a potential £3m in add-ons. He has signed a five-year deal that will keep him at Portman Road until 2029 summer.

The Republic of Ireland comes as Ipswich’s 11th signing from the summer transfer window following the signing of winger Jack Clarke from Sunderland on Saturday. The 25-year-old defender is the second player from Burnley to join the club this summer after goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

Dara O’Shea is making a return to the Premier League after being relegated with Burnley last season. He has also represented West Bromwich Albion in the competition, making 61 games and tallying three goals between the two teams. In 35 games for the Clarets, he also netted four goals, one of which came in the opening victory of the campaign against Luton earlier this month. The defender was not even part of the squad for Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Sunderland, with manager Scott Parker later on revealing that he was leaving the club.

O’Shea told the club’s website, “The manager [Kieran McKenna] was a huge part of why I wanted to come here”. Adding further, he said, “I’ve really admired what he and the team have done over the last couple of seasons, so at this stage of my career, it’s the perfect time to make a move”.

While expressing his excitement, O’Shea said, “I want to play in the Premier League and test myself against the best players in the world, which is something I want to do for as long as possible, and I can’t think of a better place to do that.” The 25-year-old stated that he knows few players in Ipswich Town and is looking forward to showing his strengths and improving his weaknesses as soon as possible and becoming a part of the Town’s culture.

Ipswich will visit AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, while they will next take action at home to Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday, 31 August.

Ipswich Town bolsters their defense with a Premier League-experienced star O’Shea who joins on a long-term deal.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
