New Delhi: Pep Guardiola is one of the most sought-after football managers, given the success he has brought to Manchester City in his eight-year reign. It is a little surprise that, as his contract is ending next June, he is being linked to the job as England’s next permanent coach.
When the City manager was asked about the possibility of the appointment, Guardiola didn’t rule out the scope of taking over from Gareth Southgate. Many experts feel that he is the best one to take forward the English, taking over from interim manager Lee Carsley. In total, Guardiola has won six Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.

In the current season, he has led the reigning champions to a total of five win and two draws, remaining undefeated from the seven games in the Premier League season, standing second in the points table, with just one behind table leaders Liverpool. Next June, Guardiola will be without a contract.
This has already put the club in stress, with Man City requesting the Spaniard to come to a decision by Christmas so they resume their search for his successor. The growing links as the Three Lions next coach have in the air since Southgate stepped down as England’s manager after losing to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.
Future at Manchester City
Guardiola, though, has mentioned that he does love the club and that he is still undecided about his future. Reacting to the links as England’s next coach, he rebuffed the links and said that these were still rumours and there had been no concrete decision made on them. One of the other reasons for the rumours is due to City sports director Txiki Begiristain’s departure in the coming summer.
Begiristain had brought Guardiola to the side, although many are of the opinion that Guardiola could continue at the City’s helm for another year. Football experts have said that Begiristain’s doesn’t naturally mean that there will be a change in the management.
For England, since Carsley took over, they have won three out of the four games they have played in the ongoing UEFA Nations League. However, their one loss came against the 64th-placed Greece at Wembley. Even though he was a strong contender for the job, the loss has put his stake to the throne at jeopardy.
