‘Is this football or WWE?’: Fans in shock as ugly fight erupts in Chelsea vs Wrexham friendly

New Delhi: Levi Colwill and James McClean got into a fight during a pre-season friendly match between Chelsea and Wrexham, generating buzz and controversy in social media. The fight took place during a heated clash between the Premier League club and the third-division club, where the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

French forward, Christopher Nkunku opened up the scoring in the match. He scored with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box, placing the ball into the bottom left corner. The goal was assisted by new signing Marc Guiu following a corner kick. Soon after, Luke Bolton equalised for Wrexham in the 58th minute. The English right-back made an excellent run from the middle and found an open space inside the penalty box to put the ball in the bottom left corner, assisted by Sebastian Revan.

Wrexham took the lead in the 71st minute through  Jack Marriott, who scored with a left-footed shot from the left side of the box, sending the ball into the bottom right corner. The goal was assisted by Sam Dalby. Chelsea leveled up in the 82nd minute through a hard-fought goal scored by Lesley Ugochukwu. He shot it at the bottom left corner of the net, assisted by Armando Broja.

Levi Colwill and James McClean caused a heated argument at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, where the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

In the third minute, a fight broke out with Colwill and McClean in the middle of it. Colwill, the Chelsea defender, got angry after a late tackle from McClean and grabbed him by the collar, leading to chaos on the field.

Players like Christopher Nkunku rushed in to pull them apart, and the referee stepped in to try and calm things down. The situation got so intense that even Wrexham’s manager, Phil Parkinson, got involved.

After they were finally separated, the game went on. Nkunku scored the first goal just before halftime. Jack Marriott then put Wrexham in the lead after Luke Bolton had equalised. However, Lesley Ugochukwu scored a late goal for Chelsea to tie the game.

The video of the altercation quickly went viral, and netizens shared their thoughts on X. One fan said, “LMAO, this is hilarious.”, while another fan compared it to wrestling by saying, “Is this football or WWE?”.

Chelsea will continue their pre-season tour in the United States on Saturday with a match against Celtic. Meanwhile, Wrexham will face the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday.
