Lima: In a rare sight, pictures and videos of the Mashco Piro, previously an uncontacted tribe deep in the Peruvian Amazon, merged from their isolated territory.
The video was released by Survival International this week showing several tribe members relaxing by a riverbank. It reported that this video was originally taken at the end of June near the banks of a river in Madre de Dios.
This video comes as a relief amid growing concerns about the well-being of the Mashco Piro.
As per FENAMAD, a local indigenous rights group, claimed that the increasing logging activity in the area is likely the reason that is pushing the tribe out of their traditional lands.
Survival International director Caroline Pearce said, “These incredible images show that a large number of isolated Mashco Piro live alone a few kilometres from where the loggers are about to start their operations.”
The NGO in a statement earlier said that at least 50 Mashco Piro people appeared in recent days near a village of the Yine people called Monte Salvado.
