New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag expressed his disappointment after Mumbai Indians (MI) handed them a heavy defeat by 100 runs in the 50th Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash on Thursday. Playing at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the home side left their fans in dismay with the eighth loss of the season, which knocked them out of the IPL 2025 playoffs race as well.
Heading into the match, RR desperately needed a win to stay alive but they were outclassed by MI in all departments. At the post-match presentation ceremony, Parag said that his team was guilty of making a lot of small errors and hoped for better performances in the remainder of the season. Batting first, MI posted a massive 217/2 in 20 overs, to which Rajasthan replied with a paltry 117, getting bowled out in 16.1 overs.
“We have to give credit to the way MI played. The way they batted, took the game a little deep, kept the 10 runs per over consistency, and accelerated in the end. As far as our batting is concerned, it wasn’t our day. 190-200 would have been ideal (to chase), but then Hardik and Surya bhai at the end really switched it up,” Parag spoke on MI’s batting power.
Despite a poor outing in the previous few games, including as many as three botched run-chases, Parag still backed the team’s middle order. “We could have done a few things better, but it is how it is. We have been getting good starts, but it is up to the middle order – myself, Dhruv, for us to step up when we lose wickets in the powerplay, but we still back ourselves, if another situation (like today) comes up then we will be up for it.”
When asked about how he thinks has the season gone for them, Parag said, “We have done a lot of things right, lot of things wrong, we want to focus on the things we have done right, lot of mistakes, lot of small errors, focus on how to not make them. We have had a few close matches, if we get an opportunity like the first 10 games in the next 3, then hopefully we can do it better.”
6️⃣ on the trot & now they’re on 🔝

Points table
MI jumped to the top spot, bagging their seventh win of the season and a sixth consecutive one, getting hold of 14 points and being just a win away from getting playoff qualified. In the 11 games they played so far, they have only lost four, which came in their initial five games. They have scripted a brilliant turnaround since then, and their juggernaut looks in no mood to stop.
Meanwhile, RR endured their eighth loss of the tournament, having only three wins to their credit and thus six points so far. They currently sit eighth in the points table and will look to sign off on a bright note with their three remaining fixtures. They next play Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 4, while MI will face Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 6.
