New Delhi: Multiple dropped catches didn’t hurt as much the no-balls they bowled in their three-wicket loss (via DLS Method) to Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has said.

MI posted 155/8 after being sent into bat at the Wankhede Stadium as Will Jacks was the hosts’ top-scorer with a 35-ball 53. He added 71 runs for the third wicket with Suryakumar Yadav (35 off 24 balls).

Lower down the batting order, Corbin Bosch scored 27 in 22 balls to pull MI past 150 with left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore being GT’s most successful bowler with 2/34 in four overs.

GT’s chase was interrupted twice by rain and they reached their revised target of 147 in the last ball of the match as skipper Shubman Gill was their top-scorer with a 46-ball 43.

For MI, pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult claimed two wickets apiece but they wera part of a bowling unit that bowled three no-balls to gift free-hits to MI. Pandya bowled two of those no-balls himself in the eighth over.

“I mean I won’t say catches cost us the game. We were very clinical in the field. I would rather say the no-balls. My no-balls and even the last no-ball. In my eyes in T20s it’s a crime. Most of the times in T20 cricket, it bites you. It definitely did to us but at the same time, really happy that everyone gave their 120% and fought really well,” Hardik said after their loss.

The all-rounder also said it is difficult to cope with such a fine-margin loss, also pointing out that the score they put up was short by at least 20-25 runs.

“Yes, definitely it’s a tough way to go down. I think we fought really well with the total we had on the board. Most of the time we were got out of the game but as a group we kept pushing. It was a game of fine margins.”

“It was definitely not a 150 wicket. We were definitely short of 20-25 runs or maybe 30 runs if we would’ve batted well. Credit to the bowlers as they bowled in the right areas and kept fighting,” he said.

Mumbai are fourth in the points table with 14 points from 12 matches and need to win their remaining two matches to reach the playoffs.
