New Delhi: Indian legendary captain MS Dhoni and star batter Virat Kohli share a very special bond and it is not even a secret for the cricket fans. Virat Kohli always admired Dhoni and thanked him many times for saving his career.
Virat Kohli made his international debut against Sri Lanka under the leadership of MS Dhoni in 2008. The duo played together for the Indian team for over a decade and stitched many match-winning partnerships.
MS Dhoni groomed Kohli for the leadership role during his tenure as captain and the Delhi-born cricketer took over as the captain across all three formats. Dhoni played under Kohli’s leadership during the last stage of his international career.
Kohli is the second cricketer after MS Dhoni to win all three ICC white-ball trophies. He played a crucial knock in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup and helped India to win the title. After the match, the star batter announced his retirement from the shortest format.
During an event in Hyderabad, Dhoni talked about his relationship with Kohli and said that they had been colleagues for a long time in the Indian team and he is one of the best batters.
“We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun” Dhoni said.
He also said they don’t meet very often but whenever they get a chance, they chat for some time “It is not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for some time. We talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship” said Dhoni.
‘Once the rules get formalised, I will take a call’: MS Dhoni on playing IPL 2025
On playing the next IPL season, Dhoni said that he would take a call on his future once the rules and regulations are formalised.
“There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalised, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team” Dhoni said at an event.
