James Anderson names India legend as the greatest batter he has bowled against ahead of last Test

New Delhi: Veteran England pacer picked the legendary Sachin Tendulkar as the greatest batter he has bowled against in his career so far. Anderson, who is regarded as one of the best fast bowlers in Test history, is playing the final Test match of his career against West Indies at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He will retire from Tests after the conclusion of the ongoing Lord’s Test which got underway on Wednesday.

England’s leading wicket-taker of all time in Test cricket, Anderson has been prolific wicket-taker in the whites throughout his career. He holds the record for most wickets by a pacer in the longest format and is the only fast bowler with 700 Test wickets to his name. Anderson needs only 8 more wickets in his final Test match against West Indies to surpass the legendary Shane Warne as the second-highest wicket-taker of all time in Tests.

In a career spanning over two decades, Anderson has bowled to some of the best batters of the current and the past generation. He has been up against some modern-day greats in different conditions and has enjoyed a fair share of success. But when asked to name the best batter he has ever bowled against, he picked none other than the Master Blaster.

Anderson also named Glenn McGrath and Dale Steyn as the best bowlers he faced in his career. “The best bowler I have faced, probably Glenn Mcgrath or Dale Steyn. Hard to pick between the two. Slightly different bowlers, both world-class. Best batter, I would have to say Sachin Tendulkar,” Anderson told Sky Sports ahead of his Test swansong against West Indies.

Tendulkar, who continues to remain the leading run-getter of all time in international cricket, is considered the greatest batter to have graced the game. The India legend is also the only batter in the history of the sport to have notched up 100 centuries across all formats in international cricket.

How many times has James Anderson dismissed Sachin Tendulkar?

Anderson enjoyed decent success against the Master Blaster during his illustrious career. The England pacer dismissed Tendulkar nine times in Test cricket and three times in ODIs. Anderson has also dismissed the likes of Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Michael Clarke nine times in Tests.

However, the Indian batter that Anderson enjoyed the most success was against Cheteshwar Pujara. He dismissed Pujara an impressive 13 times in Test cricket. Anderson will be hoping to enjoy a memorable outing in his last Test against West Indies and would have his sight set on Warne’s all time record.
