Japan’s bullet trains modified for India’s High-Speed Rail Corridor: Check details

New Delhi: India and Japan are going to finalise the specifications of the design of the bullet train which will run on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor. The Shinkansen trains of Japan are being modified so that they suit the Indian conditions. The redesign will increase the luggage capacity and the trains will be capable to operate in temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius.

According to a report by the ET, a senior official has said that the designs will be formally approved soon. The official has also said that the arrangement of the seating may also undergo reconfiguration and there can be fewer seats in every coach than what was there in the original design. The redesign will lead to a revamp of the structure of the train.

The construction of the MAHSR Corridor

The civil construction of the MAHSR Corridor has crossed the halfway mark across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. This month, the MAHSR viaducts in Gujarat witnessed the beginning of the rail wielding operations. As per an official statement, the rails which have been imported from Japan have been installed for more than 60 km.

It must be noted that while India continues to import from Japan, the Indian Railways is developing in the country capabilities of manufacturing bullet trains and signalling systems which will be apt for high-speed rail corridors. High-speed trains like and Japanese Shinkansen and French TGV run at speeds over 250 km per hour. The Railway Board has instructed the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) to produce bullet trains which can run over 280 km per hour.

ICF is working with BEML Limited to manufacture these trains. The cost of the project is Rs 866.87 crore and the cost of each coach is Rs 27.86 crore. The contract includes design expenses, development costs, infrastructure for testing and non-recurring charges. BEML aims to manufacture these trainsets at their Bengaluru facility and deliver them by 2026. The trains will be chair car with complete air-conditioning system. The bullet trains will have modern amenities like entertainment systems, adjustable reclining seats, and facilities for passengers with mobility challenges.

India and Japan are finalizing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor’s bullet train design, adapting Shinkansen technology for Indian conditions. The redesigned trains will boast increased luggage capacity and operate in high temperatures.  Biz News Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
