Jasprit Bumrah becomes No.1 Test bowler; Yashasvi Jaiswal jumps to 2nd among batters

New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah surpassed Kagiso Rabada and Josh Hazlewood to regain the No.1 spot in the latest ICC Test bowling rankings following his match-winning performance in the first Test between India and Australia at Perth.

Stand-in skipper Bumrah, who is widely regarded as the best fast bowler in the world, returned with superb match figures of 8 for 72 as India demolished Australia by 295 runs to go 1-0 up in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Placed at No.3 in the Test bowling charts ahead of the Perth Test, Bumrah, on the back of a sensational bowling display, has attained a career-best 883 ranking points, overtaking South African Rabada (872 points) and Australian quick Hazlewood (860 points).

Bumrah’s fast bowling partner Mohammed Siraj also made good progress, jumping three places to 25th after bagging five wickets in the series opener at the Optus Stadium.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal also achieved a career-best rating points (825) following a sensational century, that helped him move to the second spot in the Test ranking for batters. Jaiswal’s superb 161-run knock in the second innings which set up the win for Team India, helped him close the gap on legendary England batter Joe Root, who sits atop the batting chart with 903 points.

Seasoned batter Virat Kohli also made good ground and jumped nine spots to reach the 13th spot following his 30th Test century.

Meanwhile, star India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant remained at sixth spot with 736 points.

There were no changes in the top two slots in the all-rounders’ rankings as the Indian pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin stayed as the top two players in the Test all-rounders chart despite not playing the opening Test against Australia in Perth.
