New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian pace bowler to take 200 Test wickets when he removed Travis Head in the fourth Test against Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday, December 29.
Bumrah was six wickets away from the major milestone of 200 wickets before the start of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and he completed the milestone in his 44th Test match. Bumrah removed Australian opener Sam Konstas on 8 runs to take his 199th wicket while Travis Head was his 200th Test wicket. After that, he also removed Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey. Overall, Bumrah became the 12th Indian bowler to reach 200 wickets in Test cricket.

Fastest Indian bowlers to 200 wickets in Test cricket
Earlier, The legendary Kapil Dev held the record in 50 Test matches against West Indies back in March 1983 in Port of Spain. He also became the second fastest Indian along with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to complete 200 wickets in Test cricket. Both players achieved the milestone in their 44th Test. Ravichandran Ashwin is the fastest Indian bowler to take 200 wickets. He achieved the feat in 37 Test matches.

Overall in world cricket, Bumrah is in the fourth position on the list. Pakistan legend Waqar Younis remained the fastest to reach 200 wickets in 7725 balls. Dale Steyn is in second position who completed the milestone in 7848 deliveries while Kagiso Rabada achieved the feat in 8153 balls. Bumrah reached the 200-wicket mark in 8484 balls.
