New Delhi: Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah won the ICC men’s Player of the Month award for June after his remarkable show in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. Bumrah played an instrumental role in helping India lift the elusive trophy with his bowling heroics throughout the tournament.
The fast bowler was arguably the best bowler of the tournament by a distance and troubled the opposition batters consistently. Bumrah pipped Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Afghanistan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz to win the Player of the Month award for June.
The pacer was on top of his game throughout the tournament and finished with 15 wickets from 8 matches at an average of 8.26 and an excellent economy rate of 4.17, the best among the top ten wicket-takers of the tournament. Bumrah made the ball do the talking and was awarded the Player of the Tournament for his sensational show.
While he was at his reliable best throughout the tournament, Bumrah bowled a game-changing spell in the final against South Africa. With the Proteas needing only 30 runs to win off the last 30 balls, Bumrah conceded only 6 runs in his last two overs and picked up the important wicket of Marco Jansen to turn the game in India’s favour.
Thanks to his brilliant spell, India successfully defended the total of 176 runs in a thrilling final to register a 7-run victory and clinch the T20 World Cup 2024 title. The memorable triumph marked an end to India’s 11-year-long wait for a major ICC title as they lifted their second T20 World Cup trophy in style at the Kenisngton Oval in Barbados.
A month to remember for Jasprit Bumrah
It was a month to remember for Bumrah, who shone throughout the tournament for India. He bagged the Player of the Match award in India’s opener against Ireland and followed it up with another Player of the Match award for his stunning spell against Pakistan in the next game. He finished the T20 World Cup as the Palyer of the Tournament with 15 wickets and also lifted the trophy with Team India.
