New Delhi: Vidarbha wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma pulled off a brilliant catch to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad during the second semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Thursday, January 16.

Darshan Nalkande bowled a short-of-length delivery in the third over and Gaikwad played a pull shot but only managed to get a top edge of the bat and the ball flew towards the short fine region. Jitesh called for the catch and ran across, he puts in the dive and hangs onto the ball. Jitesh was in the air and parallel to the ground as he took the stunning catch.

It was a brilliant effort from Jitesh that saw the back of Maharashtra captain in a crucial Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 semi-final clash. The Vidarbha wicket-keeper kept his eyes on the ball and then threw himself full stretch to pull off a brilliant catch.

Vidarbha set 381-run target for Maharashtra

Earlier, Maharashtra won the toss and opted to field first but the decision backfired as Dhruv Shorey and Yash Rathod forged a 224-run partnership for the opening wicket. Satyajeet Bachhav dismissed Yash in the 35th over who scored 116 runs off 101 balls with the help of 14 boundaries and one maximum while Dhruv notched up 114 runs off 120 balls and was removed Mukesh Choudhary in the 39th over.

After their dismissals, Karun Nair played fiery knock and scored an unbeaten 88 runs off 44 balls with the help of five maximums and nine boundaries. He also stitched two crucial partnerships with Jitesh Sharma and Shubham Dubey to help Vidarbha post 380 runs on the scoreboard in the 50 overs. The winner of the second semifinal will face Karnataka in the final of Vijay Hazare Trophy on Saturday, January 18.
