New Delhi: Rohit Sharma is back! The Indian skipper might make his comeback in the Indian colours when he takes the field in the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Friday, August 2, but he is already making his presence felt in Colombo.
Rohit recently reached the Sri Lankan capital to participate in the 50-over series which begins after the conclusion of the T20I affair. India, sans now-retired Rohit and Virat Kohli, whitewashed, the hosts 3-0 to start the Gautam Gambhir-Suryakumar Yadav on a winning note. Both Rohit and Kohli retired following India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory in the Caribbean in June.
Refreshed after a long break, both Rohit and Virat would be itching to get into action.
Rohit, the ODI skipper, ahead of the ODI series against Sri Lanka, opened up on his retirement from T20Is in the pre-match press conference on Thursday. Rohit, who retired as one of the most successful players in the T20I format, revealed that the reality of his T20I retirement hasn’t fully sunk in yet.
“At the moment, the T20I retirement feeling is like I have been rested for a series like it used to happen in the past, and there will be big tournaments coming up and we have to get ready for T20Is again. I still feel like that, so I don’t think I am completely out,” he said at the pre-match press conference.
His witty reply to the reporter won the internet.

Rohit also spoke about Surya the captain, who made a perfect start to his leadership role. SKY led the team to a 3-0 sweep against Sri Lanka but Rohit said that it’s still early days for him.
“Early days for Surya as T20I captain. Good start, but let him do the job a bit more,” he added.
The three-match ODI series begins on August 2, Friday. The second match is scheduled for Sunday, August 4 before the third and final game on Tuesday, August 7. All three games will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
