‘Keep it simple’: Harry Brook’s mantra ahead of his ODI captaincy debut vs Australia

New Delhi: England will take on Australia in the five-match ODI series, starting on September 19. Harry Brook is all set to make his captaincy debut for England in the first ODI at Trent Bridge in Nottingham as Jos Buttler recovers from the calf injury.

He has gained some captaincy experience by leading Northern Superchargers in The Hundred 2024. Brook has played 15 ODI matches for England and scored 407 runs at an average of 29.07. The 25-year-old faced a lot of criticism from fans and former England players for his loose stroke play in the third Test defeat against Sri Lanka.

Both teams are coming off a 1-1 draw in the T20I series. Australia won the first T20I comfortably but England came back strongly and managed to win the second match of the series but the third and final match was washed away due to rain.

‘Want to go out there and entertain the crowd’: Harry Brook

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Brook said that all the players in the team are looking forward to the ODI series. Brook also said that he will bat at four in the series and also confirmed that Jofra Archer will play his first ODI match since March 2023 as part of his comeback from an elbow injury.

“I’ve only been here for two days, but the way the lads have gone about their business in training just seems so chilled at the minute. We’re all looking forward to going out there and having some fun” Brook said in the pre-match press conference.

He also talked about his batting and said that he will watch the ball as closely as possible and will play on the instincts “I’m just going to go out there and watch the ball as closely as possible. If you have a few low scores here and there, you start thinking about different things and your technique and whatever. I’m just going to go out there, watch the ball as closely as I can and play on instinct” he added.
