New Delhi: Kerala batter Salman Nizar, who went unsold in the recently-concluded IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, sizzled in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 match on Friday. During the 20-over game between Kerala and Mumbai in Hyderabad, Nizar slammed a brilliant knock of 99 not out off just 49 deliveries to set the base for Kerala in the first innings.
By virtue of his ferocious innings, which included five boundaries and eight massive sixes, Kerala amassed a huge total of 234/5 in the stipulated 20 overs. Apart from Nizar, Rohan Kunnummal also hit a brilliant knock of 87 runs to become the other major contributor for Kerala in the Group E game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Nizar smashes 22 off last over
The last over of the first innings proved to be the best for the Kerala batter who smashed as many as 22 runs to take his side to a huge total. The final over, which was bowled by Mumbai bowler Shardul Thakur, got hit for three sixes and a boundary as Nizar unleashed his beast mode and thrashed the bowler all across the Hyderabad stadium.

Apart from these two batters, rest in the line up failed to deliver for the side but these two did enough to set Mumbai a daunting total. For Mumbai, Mohit Avasthi proved to be the pick of the bowlers with four wickets while Shardul Thakur also claimed a wicket. In reply, Mumbai could not do much as they could only muster 191/9 in the stipulated 20 overs to go down in the encounter by 43 runs. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored for the side with 58 runs.
