Good News for India as star batter returns to nets after recovering from thumb injury

New Delhi: In great news for Team India, star batter Shubman Gill has returned to training after recovering from a thumb injury. Gill missed the first Test against Australia at Perth due to the injury he suffered during the intra-squad simulation match ahead of the series opener. It was earlier believed he would miss at least two Tests due to the but his early return to training has boosted his chances of playing in the Adelaide Test.

The second fixture of the five-match series will be a pink-ball Test, which begins at the Adelaide Oval on December 6, Sunday.

With Gill returning to the India nets on Friday, Indian team management will hope for his inclusion in the playing X1 of the second Test.

Gill’s injury recovery and return to training

In his absence, the visitors won the Perth Test game by a massive 295-run margin. While Team India will be tempted to not tinker with the winning combination, Gill’s sensational performances on the previous tour would make the team management otherwise.

Gill faced Yash Dayal and Akash Deep in the nets ahead of the pink-ball warm-up game against Australian PM’s XI starting November 30, Saturday.

Devdutt Padikkal, Gill’s replacement in the Perth Test, came to bat at number three but failed to impress in both innings.

Adelaide Test: Gill’s potential inclusion and batting position

It will be interesting to see where Gill bats if he is included in the playing X1. With KL Rahul excelling as an opener in Perth and skipper Rohit Sharma returning to the team, Gill could be pushed down in the middle order.

Skipper Rohit is expected to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Rahul could bat one down. If that happens, Gill will pushed down to number 5 after Virat Kohli.

India’s warm-up game against Prime Minister X1 will give a clearer picture of India’s batting line-up, which excelled against the star-studded Australian bowling at the Optus Stadium.
