New Delhi: Former world number one player Kidambi Srikanth and S Subramanian continued their brilliant run in the ongoing Thailand Masters badminton tournament by notching up wins in their respective men’s singles matches. Both Srikanth and Subramanian stormed into the quarterfinals of the BWF Super 300 tournament.
Srikanth took only 42 minutes to beat 20-year-old Jason Gunawan from Hong Kong in his round of 16 contest. With this 21-19, 21-15 victory, this was Srikanth’s second win over the player from Hong Kong after having beaten him previously in the Badminton Asia Team Championships last year. The Indian shuttler has looked in terrific form in the ongoing event as this was the second effortless victory he secured at the Thailand Open.
Earlier in the tournament, Srikanth got the better of Danii Dubovenko with ease as he did not give a chance to the Israel player to bounce back in a game which proved to be a one-sided affair. The Indian shuttler beat the badminton player from Israel 21-13, 21-18 on Wednesday.
Subramanian’s hard-fought win
India’s S Subramanian though had to work hard a bit to notch up a victory in his clash against Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo from Indonesia. The Indian shuttler lost the opening set before bouncing back strongly in the next two to put the game in his kitty. The opening set of the game completely went in favour of the Indonesia shuttler, who won it 9-21. The next two sets proved out to be completely opposite as Subramanian bounced back in style to register a 21-10, 21-17 win in the second and third set.
Meanwhile in the mixed doubles contest, the Indian pair of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde did not have the best of the time on the court as they were beaten 19-21, 15-21 by Ratchapol Makkasasithorn and Nattamon Laisuan from Thailand. The Indian shuttlers looked promising in their earlier games in the tournament.
